Month of Prayer and Giving Day 8- Not According To Plan

“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.”
Proverbs 19:21 ESV

Church planting seldom unfolds according to plan – at least not ours!
When Graham Field took up the leadership of the church plant at Halstead, he decided – for what seemed very good reasons at the time – not to do children’s work. Fast forward a few years. They now have both a Sunday School and a Friday night Teens group.

When they began in Halstead they had another Christian couple serving alongside them. In time this couple would leave. Graham and his family were left on their own with new Christians and non-Christian attenders.
However, when things don’t proceed according to our plan we often discover God had different – better! – plans. In this case, the following week a new mature Christian couple joined them and have proven to be a great blessing.
There are other encouragements as well. Take Tom for instance. He began coming along over three years ago at the invitation of his daughter. His daughter is not a believer, but she brings her daughters (Tom’s granddaughters) to that Sunday School the church wasn’t going to have. Tom has come to a clear understanding of the gospel, has shown evidence of a changed life and has requested baptism. They plan to baptise him on Easter Sunday.

Will you pray for Graham as he continues to lead the work at Halstead? Will you ask the Lord to raise up other leaders to serve alongside him? Will you ask the Lord to continue to bring local people like Tom to faith in Christ?
Will you pray that Graham will continue to be willing to see his plans eclipsed by God’s?
