Month of Prayer and Giving Day 9- A Lot to Learn

“And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he asked them, ‘What were you discussing on the way?’ But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, ‘If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.’”
Mark 9:33-35

Daniel Funke has recently taken up his first full-time vocational ministry assignment at Grace Baptist Church, Govan in Glasgow, Scotland. Though the Lord has been very good to him through it all, Daniel is the first to admit he has found the transition challenging.

There is, as always, a lot to learn.

There are lessons to be learned about humility as church planting requires a willingness to do the lowliest of tasks. There are lessons to be learned about loneliness. Because, let’s face it, ministry in general and church planting in particular can be incredibly lonely. It’s not, as I’m wont to say, not as glamorous as it looks!

But, despite the challenges, he is being upheld. His primary encouragement – as it should be – is his sending church in West Edinburgh. Their unwavering support of him personally as well as the work of the church plant has been a true blessing. Having an onside wife by his side has been great as well.

Will you pray that Daniel will continue to adapt to the challenges of vocational ministry? Will you pray that the gospel will spread in Govan and that the new church will be effectively planted for God’s glory? Will you pray particularly for a special outreach planned for the area later this month?

Pray, also, for other men like Daniel to be called out, trained up and sent forth to serve the Lord.

“Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.”
