Praise and Potential – Christmas in Angel

Praise and Potential – Christmas in Angel

On Christmas Eve, it was a joy to be able to join with some friends from Angel, Wood Green, and North Watford for our annual Christmas Eve service at the chapel on Chadwell Street in Angel.

We were reminded through readings from Matthew and Luke in the New Testament of the circumstances surrounding the conception and birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. We enjoyed further reminder of what Christ’s birth has accomplished and how we should respond through singing such songs as “O Come, O Come Immanuel”, “O Little Town of Bethlehem”, “Angels from the Realms of Glory”, and “O Come all ye Faithful”. Pastor Barry King brought the message from God’s Word, focusing on Matthew  1-2:12. We were shown from the genealogy in Matthew 1:1-17 the truth of Christ’s full humanity, from verses 18-25 we were reminded of the fact of Christ’s full deity, and from 2:1-12 we were pointed to Christ’s full victory as seen particularly in his purpose to rule and shepherd.

We are thankful for the past year and the opportunities we have had for service and ministry. The Concert of Prayer for the Grace Baptist Churches (Southeast), the Certain Sound Conference in April and the Grace Baptist Partnership joint service in June were real highlights. We look forward to the different opportunities the New Year will bring. As a church plant consisting of different people coming from a mixture of spiritual backgrounds and varying levels of spiritual maturity, we are enjoying a study through Paul’s letter to Titus and are very soon going to be beginning a Bible study with reference to Thabiti Anybwile’s What is a Healthy Church Member?. We also will be beginning a monthly meeting on Sunday evenings at which we will enjoy a fellowship meal, a time of service, and observance of the Lord’s Supper.

Please pray that the Lord will continue to help us grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, not just with our heads, but in our hearts as will be reflected in our actions. The coming year has much potential, may we have power from the Holy Spirit to use the opportunities afforded us for God’s glory!
